ABC Nail Challenge: Q is for Queen of Beauty

Hey Everyone! So we're already on the letter Q in the ABC Nail Challenge I've been participating in. I can't believe we only have 9 weeks (letters) left of this challenge, I don't want it to end! Anyway for this week I used Queen of Beauty by Sinful Colors.

sinful colors

I knew the letter Q was going to be a challenge, at least for me anyway. I don't know of any nail art associated with Q and I'm not that creative too come up with something else. So I looked through my collection and found only one color that began with Q. Queen of Beauty  is a silver glitter topcoat. I call it a topcoat because the glitter is pretty sparse but you can use it alone like I did on my accent nail, it just takes a few coats.

glitter nail art

I thought this color would look nice with a really pale pink so I used one of those pinks that come in a french manicure set. Normally you would only use one coat if you were going for the traditional french mani but I used 3 to make it more opaque. Then I used NYC Matte Me Crazy over the pink, I thought the matte finish might give a nice contrast since the glitter is so shiny. I know it's hard to see in the pictures.

nail art

As you can see I used Queen of Beauty on the tips except for my accent nail, that is 3 coats of just Queen of Beauty.  Instead of using the brush from the bottle I used a flat nail art brush and I think it helped in spreading the glitter evenly. You guys know how this kind of glitter is hard to work with sometimes.

Unfortunately this mani only lasted 4 hours because the pink polish started to chip and dent. That's the one thing I don't like about using matte top coats, they don't last as long. They need to come out with a matte no-chip top coat, that would be genius! I'm going to go check out what everyone else did this week :)

ABC Nail Challenge: P is for Polka Dots!

This week for the ABC Nail Challenge I choose polka dots for the letter P. I know, it's not too original but there are so many different looks you can create with a few dotting tools.

polka dot nail art

Going along with the "P" theme I used Scandal  by Sinful Colors (one of my favorite pinks) and Popular by Revlon on my accent nail. You can't really tell in the picture but Popular has both silver micro and hex glitter which makes this such a pretty color. I know a lot of other beauty bloggers love it too.

polka-dot-4

I didn't have a set look I wanted to achieve so I just began dotting small and large dots on the sides of my nails. I didn't want to do the usual straight dots across, I wanted something a little different.

polka-dot-5

I haven't done a polka dot mani in a long time so it was fun and I like how they turned out. What are your thoughts on polka dot nails, do you like them or no?

ABC Nail Challenge: O is for Ombre

Hey everyone! We're on the letter O in the ABC Nail Challenge this week, (already)!  This week has been a crazy one for me, so much that I knew I wouldn't have time to do my nails or at least with the effort I would want. I remembered an ombre manicure I did recently and figured I would post those pictures instead of skipping out totally this week.

ombre nail art

Savage and Scandal by Sinful Colors are such pretty colors alone and I really like how they look together. The more I look at these pictures they remind me of the summer, the beach and cotton candy!

gradient nail art

ombre nail art

This was my first go at ombre nail art so I played it safe with two colors but I want to try it again soon with three or four. It's a fun look and easy to do even though it was more of last years trend, I don't care. I'm looking forward to next week and coming up with something fun for the letter P. You should definitely check out the looks from the other participants in this challenge :)

ABC Nail Challenge: N is for Neon

Hey guys!! This week is the letter N for the ABC Nail Challenge I've been
participating in. Kimber from Kimber's Lacquer Korner is the creator of this challenge and has an amazing collection of nail art on her blog!

So this week I chose a neon polish, Finger Paints Iconic Orange from there 2012 Summer Neon Collection. I bought it in October for Halloween but never ended up using it. I don't wear orange polish too often so this is rare for me.

I'm really disappointed that you can't see how bright and neon this color really is. I've never tried to capture neon colors or at least this bright so maybe it's normal for it to be difficult.  I always use my digital camera for my nail pics but even after playing around with all the settings I could not get it even close to the real color. So I tried my iphone and it's still not great but its a lot better than my camera. I think that's so strange, but anyway just picture one of those super bright orange highlighters and that's what my nails look like.

This is two coats but even with one it was still super bright and I didn't need to use a white base like some other neon colors need. It dries matte but topcoat quickly fixed that. This isn't a color I would wear all the time but I think it would look really cool on your toes, especially in the summer!

Sorry for the lack of pictures this week, I usually like to have at least 3 or 4 but like I said my camera wasn't cooperating. I'm going to go check out what the other participants came up with this week :)

Five Favorites: March 2013

So this post is a little late, I meant to write it last week but life got in the way of course. I hope you enjoy checking out the five products I picked for the month of March :)

Vaseline Spray & Go
Moisturizer

”Vaseline

I received this a month ago in the Influenster Sugar N Spice VoxBox and I never heard of it before so I was really curious to see if it worked. The whole point of this product is to be able to moisturize in seconds so you can put your clothes right on. The directions say to hold the can 4 inches from the skin and spray over your body in one continuous motion. Then quickly rub into skin and go. I have to say, I'm impressed! The idea is genius, especially for when your in a rush. After spraying this on my extra dry skin I can immediately feel it soaking up the moisture. My skin felt silkier and smoother right away and not greasy at all. The scent is light and refreshing and the nozzle has a lock when you turn it which is cool so you don't accidentally spray it. I believe it said a bottle cost around $7 on the Influenster card.

Bare Minerals Tinted Mineral Veil

”bareminerals
I've had this product for a while now, it came in the Bare Minerals Starter Kit I got last year. I never really tried it, so it's been hidden in the back with all my other powders. I came across it recently and really tried it this time. Ever since then I've been using it over my foundation. It helps to create that flawless look, and it also makes my pores less visible. Even though it's the "tinted" mineral veil I really don't see much color at all. But I like that so I can use it as almost a finishing powder. I can't imagine not using it everyday over my foundation. It's become one of my holy grail products. I'm going to try and find this on Amazon or Ebay so it's cheaper than $20.

NYC Matte Me Crazy Topcoat

”NYC
I go through stages where I'm really into the matte finish and lately I've been in that stage. I recently picked up NYC Matte Me Crazy top coat. I was a little hesitant since it was only a few dollars but it works really well. I have the Butter London Matte top coat which is obviously a lot more expensive and I think NYC works just as good, if not better. I love finding a drug store product that works just as good as a high end product. It gives you the perfect matte finish in one simple coat. I got this for $2.99 at Walmart

Urban Decay Glinda Palette
”urbandecay

I won this palette from the Pretty in Pocket App Launch Giveaway along with some other cool products. I was especially excited about trying this though. The Glinda palette is one of the two limited edition palettes inspired by the movie "Oz the Great and Powerful". It comes with 8 different eyeshadows, the 24/7 glide-on eye liner pencil in purple and the Super Saturated High-Gloss lip color in Glinda, a soft pink color. The colors are so pigmented and vivid, it's a mixture of some dark shades and some lighter shades. I really like it because these are colors I don't own in my collection. I love each color and you can create so many different looks with this palette. I didn't purchase this but I know they sell it at Sephora for $49.00

Physicians Formula Shimmer Custom
Eye Gel Liner

”physiciansformula

I saw these on sale at Target for $4 and there originally $10 so I couldn't pass it up . That is an amazing deal because you are getting 3 different eyeliners. I got the set for blue eyes and this trio comes with a navy blue, a brown and a black that has a tint of blue shimmer. It comes with a brush too but I use my own. I like using gel liner when I'm lazy and don't feel like applying liquid. These liners go on nice and easy, and I like that I can either make a fine line or more of a dramatic line. The navy blue isn't so dramatic that I can't wear it for a daytime look which is good. After using them and knowing how great they are I would have spent the $10 on them.  Their also budge proof, it won't come off even a little unless you use makeup remover. I hate any type of liner that smudges or fades a few hours later. I would compare these to some high end gel eyeliners, that's how good they are. If you like gel eyeliner I recommend them.

Have you tried any of these products?

Review: Revitalash Fineline Primer

Hey Everyone! I have a primer review for you today. I don't know about you but if I don't use a primer before applying foundation I notice a big difference and not a good one. I've tried a good amount of primers, so I know what I do like and don't like in them.  A lady from QVC  asked if I she could send me the Revitalash Fineline Primer to review and I gladly accepted.

revitalash

"Revitalash Fineline Primer Cream. Specifically formulated to create a silky, smooth texture that conforms to the contours of your skin, helping fine lines and wrinkles appear softened and less visible. Help create a smooth base for  your make-up with Revitalish".

The primer itself comes in a small heavy glass pot that gives the illusion that's it's more on the expensive side.  Even though it is a small pot there is whole lot of product in there.

revitalash primer

revitalash fineline primer

The formula is soft and has that silicone feeling a lot of other primers have. I've used this primer at least a dozen times now and I've realized that less is more, literally. The first few times I could tell I applied too much because my foundation was hard to blend and wouldn't settle right.  So now I only use a very tiny amount, about half a pea size works well for my whole face.

I used my hand as an example to show you the effects of the primer. I'm sure you can see the fine lines and wrinkles on my hand below.

revitalash fineline primer review

Here is my hand with a small amount applied. You can see the difference it makes, those lines and wrinkles are filled and appear smoother. The effect on my face is the same.

before revitalash primer

The primer seems to fill in any blemishes, wrinkles or fine lines and then when foundation is applied it smooths out even more. This gives you a nice smooth canvas to work on, creating an almost airbrush look.

Overall, I can honestly say I really like this primer. It's really good at smoothing out the skin so you have a nice flawless base before applying foundation. Even more, it makes blemishes, wrinkles or lines less visible.  Like I mentioned before, it is a silicone based primer and I feel like that is important to mention since some people don't like silicone.  I personally don't mind it, I've never broken out from it or had any issues. I feel that the primers I have used that were silicone free haven't worked as well as far as creating that smooth base.

If your looking for something to help fill in wrinkles and fine lines and don't mind silicone than I definitely recommend this. It is a little on the pricey side but since you only need a very small amount you will get your moneys worth. The Revitalash Primer is available on the QVC UK website here for £40.50 ($62.30 in US Dollars).

What primer are you currently using?

This product was sent to me for consideration. This review was written by myself and all opinions are my own.

ABC Nail Challenge: M is for Matte

Another ABC Nail Challenge post! I cant believe we're on the letter M already, that just shows how fast the weeks fly by. I really didn't have to think too hard when it came to what I wanted to do. I go through stages where I'm really into the matte finish and I just happen to be in that stage now so it was perfect.

Instead of using the usual black, I used a charcoal grey, it's actually one of Sally Hansen's Magnetic Polishes in Graphite Gravity. Of course I didn't use the magnet even though this is a good magnetic polish. Then I used NYC Matte Me Crazy topcoat. I just recently picked this up for a few dollars at Walmart and it works really well.

I used a silver polish to make dots around the sides of the nails. I've had these little packets of different color nail glitter that I found and decided to throw some of the silver glitter on my accent nail for fun.

I didn't have time to do my nails yesterday after work so I literally just did them and I'm pleased with how they came out. So now I'm gonna go paint my other hand!! There's been a few times in this challenge where I wasn't happy with my nails so I wouldn't even bother doing my other hand. Am I the only one who does that?

Are you a fan of the matte finish or matte polish?
