Review: Face Secrets Makeup Brush Cleaner

Believe it or not this is the first brush cleaner I’ve ever bought, I’ve always washed my brushes with baby shampoo and never had a problem. I purchased Face Secrets Professional Brush Cleaner about a month ago and I’ve been meaning to try it and do a review. The only reason why I bought it was because it was 50% off at Sally’s Beauty Supplies, I think I only paid $4.99 for it. I have never heard of this brand so I figured I would clean a few of my older brushes that I don’t use that often, just in case. .

For this review, I cleaned three different brushes, eyeshadow, concealer and a medium sized powder brush. They were all spot cleaned and I have to say I’m happy with the results. The brushes I used for this need to be deep cleaned so I wasn’t expecting them to be 100% makeup free, they had a lot of built up makeup on them. I ‘m surprised at how quick they dried, I guess I'm used to using baby shampoo and water so that’s why. All I did was pour a little bit of the cleaner into a small plastic bowl and dipped the bristles in for a second then wiped them on a paper towel until I couldn’t see anymore makeup on the paper towel. For my powder brush I poured some in an empty spray bottle, I learned that tip from YouTube guru EnKore, he said its better to use a spray bottle on your bigger brushes. There is one con to this product,  I don’t like the fact that its blue only because when I cleaned one of my lighter brushes I noticed that it stained a small part of my brush. It could have been worse and stained all the bristles. I did have low expectations for this product mainly because I’ve never heard of the brand. I am glad I bought it though. That just shows you cant judge a beauty product by its cover..lol

How do you guys clean your makeup brushes and what products do you use?

Great review Kelly! I am sad to report that I do not clean my brushes as often as I probably should. I only wear makeup about once a week and I apply my foundation, concealer, primer, lipstick, lipgloss and eyeshadow with my fingertips. I know. I started using my fingers more because I had much more control and it was easier to mix and layer colors. I also have so many brushes I couldn't remember what color I used a particular brush for, so to avoid mixing unwanted colors on my brush, I just use my fingers. The great celebrity makeup artist Sam Fine uses Dawn dishwashing liquid to clean his brushes. I follow him on twitter.

  2. Thanks doll!!!!
I would be lying if I said I washed my brushes every few weeks like your supposed to..lol. I go through phases where Im in to washing them and where I wont for a few months. I apply my foundation with my fingers too, for the same reason you do, bc you feel like you have more control. I have a ton of brushes too, the only ones I always use are eyeshadow brushes, blush and bronzer brushes, concealer and eyeliner brushes. lol I guess I do use a lot of brushes. Im going to follow Sam Fine on twitter now, thanks!!!!

  4. You're too sweet Jenn!!! Thank you, it def is a pain, especially if you clean them with shampoo and water bc they take longer to dry. I try and do that twice a month. But I found its easier with a brush cleaner, so its not too bad doing them once a week. Thanks for reading. Hope you have a great weekend too!!! xoxo

  8. I heard that its good to add some anti bacterial soap or lotion because it has moisturizers in it. I get lazy too sometimes and will go a month without cleaning them. Its so bad though. Im glad I gave you the motivation to clean your brushes..lol

Thank you so much for reading and commenting. I appreciate it!! xoxo

  9. I must confess I actually forgot that you should clean them from time to time. In my defense, I don't wear eye shadow that often. However, when my brush needs cleaning I usually toss it and buy another one. Can you tell I don't spend that much for them? lol
    Maybe, I should..... who knows?
