BLOGGER VS. WORDPRESS

Blogger vs. WordPress

One of the most important decisions when starting a blog is choosing what blog platform to use. The two most common ones are Blogger and Wordpress right now. I'm always seeing the question "Which blogging platform is best"? and to be honest one is not better than the other. The question should be "Which blogging platform is best for me and my blog"? I say that because what a blogger needs varies and you should do some research before choosing because you're probably not going to want to go to the trouble of switching your blog over to another platform if you change your mind. I started my blog in May 2011 using wordpress and decided a few months later that blogger had more of the features I wanted. Thankfully I was able to transfer everything over without a problem but some people have difficulties.
Having used both WordPress and Blogger I wanted to make a post comparing the different features of both to at least give you an idea.

INTERVIEWING THE LADIES FROM WHOREDERS.COM

Interview with Charlotte, Heather, Vanessa and Rita from Whoreders

Four ladies on the cutting edge of cutting corners

1. Mini Bio?

Heather: Don't let the baby face trick you, she's a mean, sweepin', frugal machine.

Charlotte: A crazy couponing mom you would not want to approach at the playground.

Vanessa: Pinata princess and her little dog too(!), trying to remain fierce, yet, fiscally responsible.

Rita: My name is Rita. Collecting glorious old things and creating on a dime is what I do. Sometimes it's really good and sometimes it's really bad. But it's all about the fun on the journey, right?

2. Your blog is written by four girls, what are some pros & cons of writing this blog together?

We're all busy with work and home life, and Rita lives on the East coast, so it has been a little bit of a challenge coming together and finalizing what direction we want to go in and organizing blog posts. Finding time do get everything done is sometimes difficult too; our laptops are getting quite comfortable snuggling with us in bed late at night. But, a major pro is that with four different points of view, you’ve always got someone to bounce ideas off of. It’s helpful to have some feedback when you’re brainstorming

NOTD: REVLON'S GOLD COIN & SALLY HANSEN'S CLEAN-UP PEN

I'm really liking this color, Gold Coin by Revlon. I never really look for nail polish in the Revlon section but it was like it caught my  eye while walking down the makeup aisle. They actually have a lot of new pretty colors. So I'll be going make for more soon! There are a few reasons I'm really loving this. I know it looks very sparkly in the picture but its not, that's just  the flash. Its more opaque and you looks really gorgeous. I only had to apply one coat which made me really happy, it was so easy to apply and went on evenly. Plus, it dried so fast.

GET A CUSTOMIZED HEADER FROM ASHLYNN

I've been trying to find and make a new header for my blog for the past few days. I even asked people on twitter if they knew of any good sites because I wasn't having any luck. I finally ended up making my own on photobucket. It's nothing special but I like it. Then I got an email from my friend Ashlynn from The Little Beauty. She actually went out of her way to make me my own header for my blog. I thought that was so sweet of her ,and I love the banner. I would have used it if I didn't already make my own. But I'm keeping it for the next time I'm ready to change the header again. Here's the banner she made for me:

Beauty Tip of the Week

DIY CLAMPLESS CURLING IRON

I know there's a lot of girls that struggle with using the clamp on a curling iron, you can end up with crimp marks and sometimes its just a pain. It finally took me a year to learn how to use the clamp correctly. But for those of you that would rather not use the clamp, try this out.

INTERVIEWING DANI FROM SO MANY LOVELY THINGS

Interview with Dani from So many lovely things

Shoes, make up and other indulgences worth living for

1. Mini Bio?

I am a Brazilian girl who has been living in London, UK for 9 years. I am shoe maniac and make up lover with an inclination to sparkly, colourful things who adores everything girly. I like drama and I don’t do half-hearted. Extremely organised within my own mess.

2. What type of posts can we see on your blog?

My posts are usually about shoes, beauty and styles that I love, that excite me. They can be stuff I see and covet (like shoe designs, exhibitions/events, new products, wishlists) or things I try/do (such as reviews of beauty products and shoes I buy or events I might attend). I also do some trend spotting from time to time. The “Nails of the week” post is a permanent fixture!

MINI DRUGSTORE HAUL!

It's no doubt I'm a shopaholic and always have the need to spend money (especially on beauty products). Lately though I've had to cut back on my daily drugstore stops to monthly stops. I know, its been hard but its only temporary. This week though, I did do some drugstore hopping. Not all in one day, throughout the week and picked up some cool things. This is the first haul I've ever done, yayy!!! lol. Okay keep reading :)

On Tuesday:
I ended up stopping at The Dollar Tree and Big Lots. They were on my way home and I haven't been to either stores in a while so I said why not? Here's what I picked up:

The Dollar Tree
L.A. Colors Art Deco nail polishes, I love these so much that it is my goal to have every color in there collection. So every time I see them I pick up a few new colors. I'm pretty sure I'm only missing 2 or 3 colors then I'll have them all! Their really great for creating nail designs and the size of the brush is nice and thin plus there only a $1 each (sometimes $1.50) depending on where you buy them. Here are the colors I got this time:

10/22/2011

THIS OR THAT TAG!!

Earlier today I was on Karma Kisses blog and noticed her tag This or That and since I love doing tags, (especially when there about makeup) I figured I would do it too.
I'm tagging all of you that read this! I would love to see your answers, so leave a comment letting me know you did it so I can read them :)

MAKEUP:

 Blush or Bronzer:

  •  Bronzer!! I didn't even have to think twice about this. I use bronzer every day & dont know what I would do without it.
Lipgloss or Lipstick:

  • Ehh!! Im not a big fan of either, I never really liked the way they look on me and the fact that it never stays on your lips. But if I had to pick one then lipstick.

NOTD: OUT OF THIS WORLD

Out Of This World by Sinful Colors

When deciding on what color I wanted to use this week, I really didn’t know. All I knew was I wanted to do something different this time. You guys know how I love playing around with different desings and looks.

I found Out of this World by Sinful Colors in my collection and practically had to dust it off. I couldn’t even tell you when I bought it but it had to be a long time ago. Anyway, its your normal silver polish with some shimmer, It reminds me of tin foil lol. What you see in the picture is 3 coats. I hardley ever apply 3 coats (I’d rather apply 1 all the time if I could get away with it). But I wanted a bold look, not a sheer one. Let me tell you one thing though, it took forever to dry! Even after a half hour I smudged a nail.

Wednesday's Beauty Tip

Beauty Tip of The Week

Use Efferdent Tablets to Whiten your Nails

Efferdent tablets are known for cleaning dentures, retainers and other dental appliances. These quarter sized tablets are strong enough to clean the toughest stains. When wearing nail polish for a long amount of time sometimes your nails start to look a little yellow. It's perfectly normal though. Luckily, there are a few tips to whiten your nails and using an Efferdent tablet is one of them :)

Best of Physicians Formula's Bronzers

I have a lot of  bronzers in my makeup collection and I realized that most of them are by Physicians Formula,. a great makeup brand that I believe is known best for their great bronzers. I think I counted about 8 different bronzers by Physicians Formula. I honestly think there were only 2 that I wasn't crazy about. But  I wanted to pick my favorite 4 that I use the most and share why I like them with you :)

MULTI-COLORED FACE POWDER PALETTE

I've always liked this one because it has a light color combination to not only enhance your skin tone but to also help correct imperfections. That's what the light pink and tan shades are for. So when mixing them all together it gives you a soft natural color. *I have this in light (in comes in bronze too). Unless you have dark skin, I would stick to the light bc the bronze is a little to harsh.

INTERVIEWING GHADEER ON HER BEAUTY & FASHION BLOG

Interview with Ghadeer

Classy & Fabulous

1. Mini Bio?

I am a  20 year old girl from Saudi Arabia, I love fashion, makeup, styling, designing, anything related to computers, party planning, and administrating or managing events :D . Currently studying nursing which is not a major that is related to me or my interests in anyway I don’t know how I ended up studying nursing, but  I know that I am quitting this semester to study business administration in LOS ANGLES which will be a great opportunity for me to study a field that I am interested in, live in a great freedom country, be an insider like I don’t have to buy online any products and wait for it to be shipped to Saudi Arabia for 2-3 and sometimes 4 weeks and the shipping cost is crazy. So I am really excited.

2. What inspired you to start blogging?

Firstly, what really inspired me is my desire to show the world how Saudi women are, cause so many people think that we still live in tents and ride camels. I admit that we aren't one of the first world countries, but we live the same life use the same technology we have our sense of fashion and taste in makeup.

NOTD: WET CEMENT

Sally Hansen Wet Cement

Whenever I go to do my nails I always have a hard time deciding what color I want to use unless its something I just bought. But I was looking through my nail polish collection and forgot I bought this color a few months ago when I was on the hunt for Essie's Chinchilly (one of my favorite colors). Its almost like a dupe except it's a tad darker and has more of a grayish hue. I like it though, its defeinitly a pretty fall color. If your looking for this type of color you can buy either Sally Hansen's Wet Cement or Essie's Chinchilly because there's not much of a difference. Essie, of course was more expensive, but besides that I feel like both brands had a nice quality. I cant say anything bad about this color at all.

INTERVIEWING NYKKI FROM NYKKI'S MANE BLOG

Interview with Nykki from Nykki's Mane Blog

"Love of Beauty is taste, the creation of Beauty is Art"

1. Mini Bio?

I am a 23 year old college girl who secretly wishes she had chosen to go to beauty school a few years back! I am fascinated with all things beauty related, especially make-up! :)

2. Where can we find you?

Blog: http://www.mymaneblog.com

3. What inspired you to start blogging?

YouTube videos for sure. I began watching them all the time and quickly became addicted - I still am addicted to watching YouTube beauty videos, but now I am also addicted to reading blogs. I became extremely aware of the fact that I love make-up and beauty products and wanted to write about them! :)

4. Besides beauty, your blog covers many different topics. Which are your favorite to write about?

My favorite things to write about are make-up products. I actually love writing hauls and reviews, because that means that I have really tried a product out and either loved it -hopefully, or hated it. They are just fun to write, and I love that people respect my opinion!

5. You've gained a lot of followers, how do you think you accomplished that?

I marketed myself, I hear so many people saying "It isn't important how many subscribers I have, I just love to write." and I call that a load of crap. I love to write, I love blogging but I love having subscribers and I love talking to them. The only way that people are going to see your blog is by tell them about it. I became very interactive on the web. I talk to people on twitter - especially #bbloggers. I am on Beautylish. I read blogs and leave comments. of course actual comments, I hate the most when somebody leaves me a comment and doesn't say a damn thing about the post, just says, "new follower, check out my blog". I may check out their blog, but I am less likely to subscribe in that case. If you leave me a valid comment then I will be interested in you. I love to be very friendly to other bloggers! :) After all, we are all in the same boat.

6. If  you could give new bloggers any tips on starting out, what would they be?

I am still fairly new, I don't consider myself to be among the great bloggers, one day I hope, but I would tell new bloggers not to give up. If you go a few days without any subscribers, get out there and tell people about your blog. Get interactive with the web, get interactive with other bloggers. The best asset a blogger can have is another blogger who believes in them. Don't get caught up in competing with other bloggers, it does take time && if you have any questions at all, don't hesitate to ask me! :)

7. What are you views on doing Sponsored Reviews?

I think that bloggers work their butt off to put out great posts and great content and if a PR company contacts you then that must mean that they see something special in your blog. I think that bloggers deserve it. I didn't start off blogging to receive free items, but who the heck is gonna turn down a free product? not me. I will gladly say "thank you" and try the product out. Now will I tell my readers that I love a product just because it is free? Absolutely not! I tell all PR companies that my readers are my priority and I stay true to that. I am 100% honest with my readers and the PR company, I have never been somebody to keep my opinions to myself. PR companies can also gain insight when given criticism. If bloggers tell them their items are great when they aren't, then how does that benefit the company? As long as you are 100% honest, then bring on the free stuff! :)

8. Where would you like to see your blog in another 6 months from now?

Six months, let's see. In six months, I will be coming up on an entire year of blogging! That will be exciting. I am actually very happy with my blog right now. I am a huge perfectionist so I am always doing something new and exciting with my layout, but as far as the posting goes, I would just love to see myself grow as a writer. I have always been interested in writing, in fact, when I first started college I went in as a Journalism major. I changed that, but I have always loved to write. I also hope that I am still talking to the great bloggers that I have met here, early on (like you Kelly!). Blogging is just so exciting for me & I really do love it.

That was such a great interview Nykki!! You and your blog  have inspired me so much, so thank you for letting me do this :)))

INTERVIEWING ALY FROM SEVEN THINGS BEAUTY ♥

I thought it would be fun to try something different and interview one of my blogger friends. This is the first one I've done but I would love to do more, so if your interested leave a comment:)

Interview with Aly from Seven Things Beauty ♥

1. A short summary about yourself?

My name is Alyssa but I personally hate the name and always have gone by Aly, Aly-Marie or A.  I live in the United States but would love to visit Canada and France. I do also speak French. I really love creative writing as well:) I also love to draw and I think I may have the most doodled on notebooks ever!

2. How long have you been blogging and what inspired you to blog?

I started my first blog "Makeup or Breakup7" on March 6th and I ended up deleting it soon after I got my other blog "Seven Things Beauty". I also (somewhere along the way....) had a craft blog called Creative Flow7. That's a lot! I wanted to blog because I started becoming like OBSESSED with makeup  and decided it would be fun to have my own little place to share my knowledge with others :)

3. You do a lot of great product reviews, what type of beauty products can we see the most of?

I personally think  I suck at mascara reviews, so you wont see many of those! I think lip products and eye shadows are probably the most reviewed product on my blog...

4. You share a lot of shopping tips, which 3 do you feel are the most important?

I definitely think its important to think about what you already have so you don't end up buying almost the same exact thing twice.  Another good tip is to make a general shopping list so you don't get too out of track. The last tip would be to never buy anything that you think is SUPER overpriced because, lets face it! A lot of stores charge way too much for some products- chances are you could get the same exact thing for so much less at another location.

5. I noticed you just started another blog on poetry you write. Where can we find this blog and what inspires you to write your poetry?

You can find this blog at http://www.seventhingspoetry.blogspot.com (I know, very original :) What inspires me the most is just day to day experiences. I know it may seem like something really huge has to happen to actually write a poem about it...but really the best poems are from little things that happen because you'll find yourself really finding ways to express just the simplest thing in a really cool way:)

6. What are your favorite 3 makeup brands?

Hmmm... MAC, Covergirl, and Tarte- BUT that was nearly impossible! How dare you ask me a question like that Kelly!!

7. Why do you really enjoy blogging?

I like to blog because it makes me feel like I am helping others to really get to know the wonderful makeup art form.

8. What are your favorite parts of blogging?
I really love when people comment or email me. It is not about what they say- just that they took the time to reach out to me.

9. How long have you been wearing makeup?

I have been wearing makeup for quite a few years but I started getting OBSESSED with it about 2 years ago.

10. What made you choose to start a Beauty blog?

Again, I became obsessed with makeup! I think the only thing that stopped me from the MY STRANGE ADDICTIONS show was that I actually had to spend lots of money on makeup. If it was free, I would be on that show! LOL.

Thanks Aly for this interview! You have a great blog with a lot of creativity:)

Wednesday's Beauty Tip

Beauty Tip of The Week

WHY YOU SHOULD CLEAN YOUR MAKEUP BRUSHES PRIOR TO FIRST USE

Woman that have sensitive skin or often have skin reactions are skeptickal when buying new makeup. Their afraid  it might make them breakout. Personally I dont have sensitive skin but I have some friends that do. I can understand how annoying it might be not to buy a new product you really want bc you're afraid of your skin reacting to the chemicals. However, the makeup might not be the problem, how often do you wash a makeup brush before you use it for the first time? I'll admit it, I never used to wash my brushes right after I bought them.until recently. It never occurred to me that a lot of brushes are treated with different chemicals that can irritate your skin. Next time you buy new makeup brushes give them a thorough cleaning before you use them, It might be the solution to this annoying problem. Even if you dont have sensitive skin, its a good habit to get in to.

How many of you wash your brushes before using them for the first time?

DIY: Pumpkin Facial Mask

After our few weeks of Indian summer ended and the cool temps we've had this week, I'm now in the fall mood. I came home the other day and noticed my mom had put a pumpkin in front of our house like she does every year. As soon as I saw the pumpkin it reminded of this pumpkin facial mask I tried last year. I immediately couldn't wait to post this for you guys. The ingredients in pumpkin will help all skin types, high in Vitamins A and Z and Zinc, this squash helps heal and protect the skin from free radicals, while gently dissolving dead skill cells. When you add egg and milk it helps bind the mask together, nourishing and lifting the skin.
I found these easy recipe to be very soothing and moisturizing and my skin had a healthy glow afterwards. Again, I would never share a recipe with you that I haven't tried on myself :) So after Halloween is over don't throw away your pumpkins!

Ingredients:

- 2 teaspoons of cooked pumpkin (you can also use canned pumpkin)
- 1 egg
- Splash of milk

Optional Ingredients:
For Dry Skin- you can add a small amount of honey-  it will attract and keep moisture inside your skin where it belongs.
For Oily Skin- mix in a splash of apple cider vinegar for an astringent effect.

Directions:

  • Whisk together the pumpkin, egg and milk
  • Add any optional ingredients and mix gently
  • Apply to your face with either your fingers or an old makeup brush (avoiding the eyes)
  • Relax, read, do chores or whatever you would like for the next 15-20 minutes
  • Rinse thoroughly with warm water and apply your regular moisturizer
*Put an old shirt on that you don't mind getting ruined and put a towel on your counter or floor. If you drop some you don't want it to ruin your clothes or floor.

Let me know if you try this and how you liked it :)
