ABC Nail Challenge: L is for Leopard

This week we're on the letter L for the ABC Nail Challenge hosted by Kimber over at
Kimber's Lacquer Korner. If you like nail polish and nail art you should really check her out then, she has a lot of amazing looks!

Anyway, this week was a lot easier on me than last week's Hello Kitty disaster! There were more choices this week. I had a few polishes that began with L but none that I was crazy about using, so I chose a leopard print mani. Leopard print is always fun and besides it's been a while since I did one.

Instead of the traditional golden leopard colors I picked a brighter combo, blue and silver. I used Celeb City by Sally Hansens Xtreme Wear and Savage by Sinful Colors. They look a bit sloppy up close but they're not supposed to be perfect so it's okay. I always used a dotting tool for the nail art in the past but I found that using a thin nail art brush helped to speed the process along.

St.Patricks Day Water Marble Nails!

I always say holidays are a great excuse to do nail art, even if it's not your favorite holiday. I should have posted this earlier but the truth is I didn't do them until yesterday. I'm not sure what made me decide on a water marble design considering I've only been successful at it a few times. I was hoping I could get a four leaf clover design but I was just happy that they came out good.

I used Permission to Proceed by Wet n Wild's Spoiled line for my base. Weird name, right?  It's a sheer medium green and the formula is pretty bad, it goes on very streaky. For the water marble I used Going Green and Mint Sorbet by Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear, a regular green and a pastel green. Do you do anything special on St. Patricks Day?

ABC Nail Challenge: I is for In A Flurry!

Happy Wednesday Everyone! This week is letter I for the ABC Nail Challenge and its not an easy one for nail art. I couldn't think of any nail art or designs that began with I. But that's okay because this week I have In a Flurry  by Sally Hansen Insta-Dri to show you.

In a Flurry is a blackened-teal base color packed with shimmer. The colors I saw the most were green, purple and gold. These are one of those colors that looks different in the bottle. When I look at the bottle it seems like there is some duchcrome but you cant really see it on your nails. When the light hits your nails in a certain way you can see some yellow, gold, green, silver and purple flashes. So it's really an amazing color. I'm only showing 3 pictures since the color changes so easily and is hard to capture.

This was the best picture I got in terms of it's true color.

The formula is really nice, I was expecting it to be more thick, maybe because all of the other SH Insta-Dri polishes I have are but this one was thin. The first coat is really sheer so I used 3 coats for full opacity.

I'm not 100% positive but I thought I read or heard somewhere that this color is part of a limited edition collection. The only time I've seen this sold anywhere was CVS a few months ago when I bought it. I could be wrong though. Don't forget to check out all the other ladies participating in this challenge :)

Throwback Saturday- NOTD Blue Me Away!

It's fun looking through my older posts, a lot of them I totally forgot about. It's even more interesting reading what I wrote and thinking did I really write that. I guess that's a sign that my writing has improved. Anyway, I wanted to republish a nail post this week, one of my firsts. That's when I really started getting into nail art, I was horrible when I first started.

Five Favorites: September 2012

1. Conair Bun Maker- 

I usually like to throw my hair up in a bun, either when I'm working out because that seems to be the only way from my hair flopping all around. I also like the messy bun look and when the bun has volume. Before I bought the Conair Bun Maker I would put my hair up in a ponytail and twist the rest around and use bobby pins to keep it in place but I really couldn't  mess around with it, or give it any volume. I always wanted to try one of these bun makers so when I saw it at Walgreen's on sale for $2 I couldn't resist. 

The conair bun maker comes with a donut looking loofah, ponytail holder and four pins. Its really simple to use, all you do is put your hair up and then pull it through the hole and wrap it around the donut; then you pin the ends, one end of the  pin goes through the donut and the other end goes in your hair at the scalp. Just make sure to spread the hair around enough that the donut isn't showing through. Then use the remaining pins to secure it.  I like to tease the ends of my hair after I pull it up so it gives me some extra volume. I'm glad I bought this because I use it whenever I feel like wearing a bun now.

2. Sally Hansen LA CROSS Perfect Arch Brow Set-

I don't like to do my own eyebrows except for plucking a few stray hairs. I always get them done at the salon. Plus I don't enjoy the process and I feel like I might tweeze too much and be left with half an eyebrow. I picked up this kit at Ulta because of the angled scissors that came with it. I heard they make shaping your eyebrows a lot easier. 

Besides the angled scissors it comes with a little plastic shaver that's disposable, and a  brow brush. This little kit is a lifesaver for me. The angled scissors make it really easy to pluck the hairs that are out of place. I like the razor and comb even though I haven't used the razor too much (still a little nervous) but now that I have this I don't have to go get my eyebrows done as frequently. The kit was $8 at Ulta and I would definitely recommend it.

3. e.l.f. Nourishing Cuticle Pen-

I made a recent trip to Target to see what elf products they had and I bought a few things, but one of my favorites is this cuticle pen. I'm always trying to take care of my nails and cuticles. I usually use creams or oils and have never tried the pens until now.  The oil is very soothing and stays on even after washing my hands. It's not greasy at all and the marker makes it very easy to apply. I've been using this pen instead of my usual cuticle cream and my cuticles look just as good. I should have stocked up and bought a bunch of them since there only a $1.

4. Rodan + Fields ANTI-AGE Overnight Restorative Cream-

I did a post a few weeks ago on the Rodan + Fields UNBLEMISH skin care regimen I received. I was sent a 60 day supply to test and review on my blog. Click here to read the post if you want. Along with the four products I got I also received there anti-age overnight cream that can be used with any one of there regimens. I honestly have to say I love all the products and so far my skin looks so much better (but I will be posting an update on that soon). 

For the last 6 months I've been waking up with oily skin which is weird bc I've never had oily skin before. I've always had normal to dry skin even in the morning.  Well, after using this overnight cream for about a week or so I noticed my skin wasn't as oily in the morning. Besides that, my skin feels smooth and looks alive again.  Check out my post to see the rest of Rodan + Fields products, they really do work. 

5. e.l.f Studio High Definition Powder-

This was another fav from my trip to Target. For $6 this powder is great! I use it after foundation, blush and bronzer and it pulls everything together and makes my skin look matte and in an airbrushed way. It's a translucent powder that's really fine and goes on super smooth and evenly. It comes with a small makeup puff that I use to apply it then blend it out with a fluffy powder brush. Another great product, gotta love E.L.F!

DIY: How to Brighten Yellow Fingernails

There are many things that can turn your nails that unwanted yellow color, nail polish itself, medications people take, nicotine and I'm sure there are other causes. In the past 6 months I haven't been painting my nails as frequently as I used to, and I've noticed that my  nails aren't as bright as they used to be or should be.

 Fortunately, there are 3 different at home remedies to get the yellow out!! 

REMEDY #1 

WHAT YOU NEED:

*water

*lemon juice or a lemon (both work the same)

*bowl

*white vinegar

*nail brush

STEP 1:

Fill a bowl with enough water that you have enough room to fit your nails in, either pour some lemon juice or squeeze the juice out of a lemon into the water. 

STEP 2:

Soak your nails in the bowl for 5 to 10 minutes

STEP 3:

Rinse the bowl and clean it, then fill it with equal part vinegar and water. Then take your nail brush and dip it in the bowl and lightly buff your nails for a few minutes. Then rinse!!

REMEDY #2

WHAT YOU NEED:

*bowl

*water

*denture cleaning tablets (like Efferdent or another brand). These are great for getting yellow stains out.

STEP 1:

Fill the bowl with warm water and let the tablet dissolve in the water. Once dissolved, soak your nails for 5 to 10 minutes. 

STEP 2:

Before washing your hands, take a nail brush and lightly buff your nails and then wash your hands. 

REMEDY #3

WHAT YOU NEED:

*baking soda

*lemon or lemon juice

*bowl

*nail buffer

STEP 1:

In a small bowl mix baking soda and lemon juice. 

STEP 2:

Stir the mix until it forms a paste, apply a small amount to each nail and lightly buff each nail. Then wash, dry and moisturize your nails and hands. 

***Another alternative that works is Sally Hansen's INSTA-BRITE Nail Whitener. I've used this and found it to be very effective. You can apply it over bare nails, under nail color or keep re-applying for maximum results. 

I've used all these remedies and they work! Chances are you have mostly everything you need already in your kitchen.

Five Favorites: August 2012

Better late then never, right? lol. I did have this favorites post ready a few days ago, but had technical difficulties, again! No more though! (knock on wood).. These products I've been using all summer so it was pretty easy to pick them out.

It's a 10 Miracle
Leave-In Product

I've heard a lot of good things about this product for a while but I never wanted to shell out the $20. They had a trial size at CVS for only $4 so I got it, tried it and then bought the full sized bottle. This one bottle is like having 10 different products for different uses. It's supposed to repair damaged hair, add shine, controls frizz, protects hair color, heat protector, de tangles, stops hair breakage, creates silkiness, enhances natural body and prevents split ends. Now I'm not sure about all 10 of those, but from my experience it controls frizz, de tangles, creates shine and silkiness and also smells good. I used to use at least 3 different products before blow drying my hair and now I only need this one. The consistency is thick and not thinking about it I applied too much the first time and it weighed my hair down a bit. Now I only use a few sprays, comb it through and that's it. I definitely love this product and the fact that it's the only one I need to use now. Full size retails for around $20


Mally High Shine 
Liquid Lipstick

I received this as part of the NewBeauty TestTube sampling program to review. (I'm still working on the review post). You get a bunch of high end samples and 3 full size products and this lipgloss was one of them. I'm not really a lipgloss or lipstick girl, I don't like the stickiness or how it looks on me. The only colors I ever wore are nude subtle colors. I happened to really like this and have been wearing it since I opened it. The color is called Just Heaven, a light pinkish nude. It's a 4 in 1 formula that works as a lip primer, lip gloss, lipstick and lip liner. It gives your lips a shiny tint of color without the stickiness I hate. I don't need to reapply it every 2 minutes and it keeps my lips hydrated. Mally is a celebrity makeup artist that has designed red carpet looks for the biggest celebrities. Sally Hansen Brush-On
In Shower Hair Removal

I hate shaving with a passion and have tried other hair removals like Nair a while ago but never liked them. Something made me pick this up at Walmart in the beginning of the summer, I think I had a coupon or something. The packaging is awesome, it has a brush for a dispenser which makes it easy to just brush the cream on your legs. The best is the "in-shower" feature, you apply it to your legs and jump into the shower and it continues to do what it needs to. So for the first 2 minutes in the shower you're not supposed to let your legs get wet. Then after 3 minutes you can rinse the cream off with a washcloth. I was very surprised at how well this worked. I couldn't believe that it took all the hair off my legs and left them  nice and smooth.  You can also use this on your underarms and bikini area. Retails anywhere from $10.99 to $12.99

Sally Hansen 
Airbrush Legs

I'm not going to go into too much detail on this product because I just recently did a full review where you can read here!  Everything this product claims to do is true. It covers any imperfections on your legs, gives the illusion that you're wearing pantyhose, it blends very easily just like foundation and it stays strong in the pool or at the beach. Can you tell I love this stuff? lol. It comes in 3 different shades, light glow, medium glow and tan glow. I have the tan glow and it matches perfectly. I love the airbrushed look you get from this. It's not messy at all and takes less than a minute to dry. I highly recommend this to anyone, even if you don't have imperfections to cover up, you will still like the result. I paid $12.99 at Walmart and I think its worth every penny!

Garnier Skin Renew
BB Cream

I should mention that this is my first BB cream, when I first stumbled upon it at CVS months ago I didn't even know what BB cream was. Then I started reading the back of the box and was very skeptical, I mean how could this one product even out your skintone, moisturize, work like a primer, tinted moisturizer and help reduce fine lines and wrinkles? Sounded too good to be true but I had to try it and ever since it's become a staple in my everyday beauty routine. If I'm having a good skin day I can leave the house with this and maybe some bronzer or blush on and feel confident. What I like the most is how it brightens and evens out my skintone, gives me light coverage, moisturizes and gives my skin an overall healthy look. I got lucky because the medium/deep shade I have matches perfectly. I agree it should come in a few more shades though. There are a lot of high end BB creams and other drugstore brands are coming out with there own versions. I honestly don't have any reason to try another brand since Garnier's does such a great job! I purchased this for $12.99 at CVS.

Updated Review & Video: Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs

In the beginning of the summer I picked up a bottle of Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs in Tan glow for the first time. I know this product has been around for a while but I never payed any attention to it. I was always under the impression it was just another self tanner for your legs.

Sally Hansen Salon Airbrush Legs in Tan Glow ($11.99) 

What they claim:

"Imagine pantyhose-free flawless legs. Spray-on leg makeup stays fresh and natural looking all day. This lightweight formula is water and transfer resistant. New Palmaria Extract formula enhances coverage so legs look and feel silky smooth and sexy"

How to use:

Shake well. Spray directly into hand and apply on legs and feet. Blend evenly and completely  Let set for 60 seconds before dressing. 

My Thoughts:
It's not too often when I agree with everything a product claims to do, right? Well I honestly have to say with this one I do. I was pleasantly surprised, like I said I thought it was some kind of self tanner. Then when actually reading the package I  found out its makeup for your legs aka "foundation". I've used this at least 10 times already and love it! I could kick myself in the you know what for not buying this when it first came out.

Pros:

-  Covers up any imperfections on my legs; (ex) razor bumps, sun spots, light freckles.

-  Flawless airbrushed finish with a tint of color that looks completely natural

- Water Resistantt- I've been in the pool and at the beach with this and it doesn't
     budge. It comes off easily with soap and water in the shower.

- Blends easily and quickly, I've never had any streaks or blotches.

- Dries in less than a minute. I can do both of my legs in under 5 minutes including
    drying time.

- Available in 3 different shades; light glow, medium glow and tan glow

- No mess or stained hands.

- Buildable, depending on how much coverage you want, you can apply more than one
    layer and it will slightly enhance the color and coverage.

Cons:
The only con I could find (and its really not a big one) is that it has a little of a cosmetic smell to it but that is because it's a cosmetic product..

**Instead of taking before and after photos I thought a short demonstration video would be better. Let me know what you think!! :)

Influenster Summer VoxBox 2012

I know this post is way past due but my computer was still being fixed when I received my voxbox.  I'm sure a lot of you know how this works but for those of you that don't, all you have to do is go over to Influenster.com and make a profile. I only used this once but but my first impression was that it smelled really good, like summer. I did notice that my skin felt softer than it does when using other sunscreens. I can't say if it lasted for 12 hours like it claims since I wasn't out in the sun that long  but overall I think its a pretty good product and will use it again.

I'm not going to lie I was a little surprised that they included this, not disappointed but just surprised. I love the little makeup pouch it came with that they put the tampons in. The colors are beautiful and bright, maybe the intention is to brighten up that time of month for you lol, I'm just guessing. I haven't been able to use anything but the makeup pouch yet but I will try them out when I need them.

I was excited to try this because I like banana nut bread and it was really good! It really did taste like a slice of banana bread!  It says that there are almonds included but I couldn't really taste them which was okay for me since I'm not a fan. I didn't realize till afterwards that on the package it says you can also warm it up in the microwave for a softer bar. I'm sure that would have been yummy. I would eat these again for breakfast especially since they are pretty healthy for you.

This is definitely my favorite product out of them all, If you know me at all you know I'm obsessed with nail polish and trying new nail trends. I've wanted to try magnetic nail polish ever since I heard of it. I never bought it because it was a little pricey. So thank you Sally Hansen for coming out with it! I immediately tried this the day I got it, I thought it was going to be a little difficult but it actually was super easy! The only challenging part is making sure you dont touch your nail with the magnetic cap. I wish I took a picture of my nails before I took it off :( I will be using it again though.

I've come to really love this product! At first I thought it felt a little too oily but then I noticed that it goes away within a minute once its fully absorbed. I'm always trying to keep my cuticles conditioned as well as my hands so this is a great 2 in 1 product.  I did notice that it keeps my hands and nails nice and soft for a good amount of time. I keep this in my purse now and would definitely buy the full size.

A Years Challenge Week 20: Bow Mani

This week's challenge was to come up with a manicure with bows. Even though I'm not a fan of stamping because I really suck at it, I was hoping I had bow on one of my plates but I didn't. I was actually going to give stamping a fourth try lol.

The look I did for this week is known as the tuxedo mani. I've been wanting to try this  ever since I saw it a while ago and since it requires bow ties I figured it would be the  best time to finally try it.

A Year's Challenge Week 18: Cartoon Mani

When I first found out that this week was a cartoon mani I was thinking this was going to be a definite challenge but in in a good way. There are so many different cartoon's from when I was a kid and now that would be so fun to do. The problem though, how was I going to draw a cartoon character's face on my nail? Then a few days later Mickey and Minnie mouse popped into my head and I knew exactly what I wanted to do, the colors, the nail art, etc.

A Year's Challenge Week 16: Dotticure Mani

Dotticure?? Hmm..I'm guessing that this is just a fancy word for a polka dot or dotted mani. That's the way i interpreted anyway. I love learning all these new names for manicures I never heard of.

I knew I wanted to come up with something creative, even though Im not usually that creative. So I got out my set of dotting tools and basically just started dotting away. I noticed that when i don't think about it too much ahead of time, I have a lot easier time deciding what Im gonna do. That's how I came up with my dotticure mani.

A Year's Challenge Week 13: Ruffian Mani

I am so late posting this week's nail challenge! Sorry! I need to get myself back on track. Everytime I went to do my nails this week it either wasn't the right time or I didn't have enough time to finish them. It's crazy because I've always found time to do my nails.

This week's challenge was a Ruffian mani and I honestly never heard of it before so I had to goggle it. I was surprised when I first saw what it was, it reminds me of the half moon mani except the moon part is bigger.

A Year's Challenge Week 12: Skittle Mani

I'm sorry for posting this week's mani so late and I'm sorry for hardly posting at all this week. This week ended up being crazy and before I knew it today was already Friday. I think this is the first time I've went a whole 5 days without one post and I don't like how that feels. Maybe I'm just being silly but I don't want to let you down or feel like I'm letting myself down when it comes to my blog. I think this week's rush is over so I will be back to my normal schedule, if you want to call it that. I wanted to let you guys know that though so now on to this week's nail challenge!

A Years Challenge Week 11: St.Patricks Day Mani

I finally did my St. Patrick's Day manicure for this week's challenge. I know I'm a little late. I try to have my nails done by Monday so I can post that weeks challenge but it usually ends up turning into Tuesday for some reason. This week ended up being Thursday (i know, bad blogger) lol. I was excited to do this mani though. Another excuse for cute nails :) Here's what I finally came up with.

A Years Challenge Week 9: Polka Dot Mani

Yeahhh!!!! for this week's challenge, polka dots! I love polka dots and since the last two weeks for this challenge didn't come out like I would have wanted, I was excited about this week.  I haven't done a polka dot mani for a while but I think it's one of the first nail designs I mastered. It's not hard to do either and you don't necessarily need dotting tools to do this. I used to use either bobby pins, toothpicks, basically anything that had a rounded end.

This was a perfect opportunity to get some real use out of the 5 pc dotting tool set Born Pretty Store sent me a few months ago. I used the 2 largest sizes for the dots and one of the smallest sides for the white dots on my accent nail.

Review: As Seen On TV Salon Express Nail Stamping Kit

**Just so you know I'm a nail stamping virgin. This As Seen On TV Salon Express Kit is the first nail stamping kit I've ever had. I've never used the Konad or any of the other popular kits, so for those of you that have experience in nail stamping, your opinion will probably be totally different from mine.

I bought the Salon Express Kit a few weeks ago at CVS,  The retail price of this kit is $9.99 but I happened to have $4.00 in CVS coupons so I only ended up paying $6 and change. I've also seen this at other drugstores and Sally's Beauty Supply.

A Year's Challenge Week 8: Corset Mani

This week's manicure for the Nail Challenge was a little intimidating. I'm usually not too bad when it comes to freehand nail art but it depends on what it is.  When it comes to using my non dominant hand, forget about it. I don't know how people do it! I actually forgot what a corset really looked like so I had to google them lol. Then I remembered, it's actually a good idea for a manicure.

A Year's Challenge Week 7: Valentines Day Mani

I have to be honest, Valentines Day has never been one of my favorite holidays, I don't hate it but I don't love it either..and no lol, it's not just because I'm single this year. Even when I was with someone it wasn't something I made a big deal about. That's just me though. However it is a perfect excuse to do your nails really cute :) I wanted to do a little more with my Valentines Day mani but before I knew it I was doing my nails on Sunday night. So I kept it pretty simple, but cute. 

A Year's Challenge: Week 6 Half- Moon Mani

I recently found out about a nail polish challenge, "A Year’s Challenge" . I first found out about it from Jenna’s blog I’m still thinking and I immediately knew I wanted to join in. 

I’ve been wanting to do a nail challenge for a while but couldn’t imagine changing my nails every single day. This challenge is a different mani every week for the year so that's perfect since I usually paint my nails once a week anyway. I'm a few weeks behind but that's okay, I'm just gonna start with this week's mani which is the Half-Moon mani.

I've seen this look a bunch of times but never tried it, It honestly never really appealed to me for some reason. I'm glad I'm trying this out though. I ended up using two colors from Sally Hansen's Insta- Dri collection, Silver Sweep and Speedy Sunburst.  Silver Sweep is a silver metallic and Speedy Sunburst is a bright creamy pink. Both colors only required one coat which I love!
